European Adventure Series: A Visit to Greece
After two weeks of traveling in Greece, I’m back in the mountains of France…and freezing! With winter knocking at the door, I was very happy to enjoy my travels in the warmer weather of Athens followed by the Cyclades Islands.
Upon meeting up with Mandy in Athens, we hit the ground running. Our first 5 days were quite hectic. We met with yacht managers, crews, and even a few of the owners- and spent several days viewing yachts, which greatly benefits our clients when they book charters with us.
Athens is a sprawling city and we managed to see several areas while we traveled about to meetings at the different marinas. With many charters based out of Athens, we wanted to get a better understanding of the city- including marinas, flights, ferries, and transfers. All of this helps us to best customize a charter for our clients.
We spent 2 days exploring some of the main sites- the Acropolis, the Zeus Temple, and Monastiraki- including Hadrian’s Library, the Ancient Agora, and the famous Sunday Flea Market. Of course, we also had ample time sampling the local cuisine and Greek wines! A favorite restaurant, located at Flisvos Marina, was Nisos. Here, we sampled a large variety of incredible local delicacies…with beautiful views of the yachts.
Then, we headed for Mykonos. As an excellent location to begin/end charters when visiting the Cyclades Islands, we explored the island, checked out restaurants, sampled the gelato, and roamed through the picturesque streets of Mykonos Town.
Then, when Mandy left, I headed off on my own…
After spending a second night in Mykonos with a day trip to Delos, I headed off to Paros, Antiparos, and Naxos…and ended in Glyfada on the mainland near Athens.
Greece is a fabulous country with endless charter options! As I can’t possibly fit all the information into one blog, please check upcoming blogs for more details on the yachts we viewed and specifics on each of the islands and chartering in Greece!
