Charter Blog Series: Disconnecting
Social media and life in a world of computers has its advantages. Life is connected worldwide at the tap of a button. Work can be easier, faster- very efficient. Friends and family can be in touch over great distances. And, it allows someone like myself to be writing about it from my garden on the side of a mountain overlooking a beautiful valley.
However, that constant bombardment of information comes with a price. As we’re always connected, people often miss the personal connection with those around them. Work never ends- it’s always at the tip of our fingers. With these increases, the stress increases…and it compounds.
Disconnecting is something that many people want- actually need- to better balance life. It’s a need to disconnect from the online world that moves at an insane pace. The need to be present. Live in the moment. The need to not have an avalanche of news funneled to us incessantly. All the time. Every moment. But can you step away?
My ideal place to find that peace and ‘in the moment’ perfection is on the water. Sailing slows the pace- the sun, wind, and fresh air clears the mind and feeds the soul. For many, chartering a yacht on holiday allows you to have this incredible experience. While there’s WiFi onboard most charter yachts, try to simply leave your devices turned off and experience the ‘now’. The slow life.
While on your holiday, talk to your friends and family without the distraction of a cell or computer. Experience the simple joy of sailing- or diving in for a swim- or jumping on a SUP to go for an evening paddle- without the need to Instagram at that very moment. Watch dolphins dive about the boat- and, instead of filming…hop in for a swim!
Life is there…right in front of us, as long as we don’t miss it while staring at a screen.
Now, get sailing and disconnect…
